Shoe Porn

Remember when I posted about that gorgeous Tabitha Simmons multi-colored snake skin peep-toe bootie that cost a ridiculous $1,400 but was just so pretty and fun to ogle over? Well I always knew that it would unfortunately never be joining my shoe collection, but I didn’t care. On the blog it went, like a lot of other things I can’t afford, for that matter.

Apparently, in the blogosphere this is known as “shoe porn.”  It’s hot shoes, period. Whether you can or can’t afford them, will or won’t eventually be pulling the trigger… shoe porn is simply those stunners that are so good that you can’t stop obsessing over them, let alone close the web browser where you first spotted them.

{Carven – Slingback Bow Pump, $595}

Carven’s bow pumps are my current craving right now.  And that color is so bright and fresh for Spring, I’m pretty much obsessed.  That, my friends, is shoe porn.

BB Forever

Just added to my to-do list: see the photo exhibition BB Forever: Brigitte Bardot, La Légende at the Sofitel Los Angeles.  “The collection of 30 photographs, presented for the first time in the United States, traces the career of the French actress, singer, and 1960′s sex symbol.  French writer and journalist Henri-Jean Servat curated the rare look into the icon’s life, detailing her rise to fame as a screen legend — and in more recent years, an animal rights activist.” –Flavorwire

Here are a few images being featured in the exhibit, where Bardot looks obviously stunning per usual.

The exhibit is only here until March, and then it will be traveling to Chicago, Washington, and finally New York.  If you’re interested in seeing it and live in any of the mentioned cities, visit Sofitel for more information.

Remember when I declared that hard work pays off and also motivates?  Well it’s weeks like these where the days seem too long and the only thing I want to do at the end of them is soak in a hot bath with a glass of wine and unwind.  Here are some soaking spaces so lovely (they’re too pretty to just call them “bathrooms”) that I could only dream of relaxing in something similar one day.

On another note, my 3 best friends from college are coming to LA to visit tomorrow for a mini reunion weekend.  I could not be more excited.  This has been THE longest week; Wednesday seemed like Friday; counting down ’til the weekend….

Marni x H&M

Who’s excited for H&M’s collaboration with Marni, in stores March 8th?  (mark your calendars now.)

V-Day Dinner

Two nights ago for Valentine’s Day, Jarret and I decided to cook dinner and bake dessert together over a bottle of wine rather than overpay for a prix fixe meal at a cheesily-decorated restaurant.  (Do you remember that episode of Sex and the City where Carrie and Miranda celebrate Valentine’s Day together, and as they sit at dinner the strings from too many red and pink balloons dangle in their unhappy faces?  That’s what I always think about – and try to avoid – when Valentine’s Day rolls around and we’re trying to make plans.)

On the menu?  Shrimp Lemon Pepper Linguine and Paula Deen’s Gooey Butter Cake (I’m happy to report that the cake was my first go at a recipe found on Pinterest).  I won’t kid myself, I am certainly no chef, but I have to say I was pretty impressed with the results of both.

Shrimp Lemon Pepper Linguine (recipe via)

What you’ll need:

  • 1 (8 ounce) package linguine pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup white wine
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • salt to taste
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 pound fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil

  • Bring a large pot of slightly salted water to a boil.  Add linguine, and cook for 9 to 13 minutes or until al dente; drain.
  • Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat, and saute garlic about 1 minute.  Mix in chicken broth, wine, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, and pepper.  Reduce heat, and simmer until liquid is reduced by about 1/2.
  • Mix shrimp, butter, parsley, and basil into the saucepan.  Cook 2 to 3 minutes, until shrimp is opaque.  Stir in the cooked linguine, and continue cooking for 2 minutes, until well coated.

Paula Deen’s Gooey Butter Cake (recipe via)

What you’ll need for the crust:

  • 1 (18 1/4 ounce) package yellow cake mix
  • 1 egg
  • 8 tablespoons butter, melted

What you’ll need for the filling:

  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 8 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 (16 ounce) box powdered sugar

  • Preheat oven to 350° F
  • Combine cake mix, egg, and butter; mix well with an electric mixer.  Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan.
  • For the filling, beat the cream cheese until smooth in a large bowl.  Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter; mix with electric mixer.
  • Next, add the powered sugar and mix well.  Spread over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes.  Do not over-bake as the center should still be a little gooey.

I warn you, this cake is not for the dieting kind.  It is beyond fattening (2 entire sticks of butter and 1 entire package of powdered sugar!), but also so yummy… and great for a special occasion like Valentine’s Day.  All in all, we had a delicious and relaxing meal together to celebrate this slightly obnoxious (can you believe Hallmark had the nerve to steal $8 from me in exchange for a measly little card?!) yet sweet holiday.  Hope yours was great too!

{Sadly I was too ravenous once our meal was ready for consumption and completely forgot about the whole “picture” thing, so the above images were found here and here}

Many bloggers I follow and admire did literally THE best job documenting their adventures at New York Fashion Week this past week.  My Twitter and Instagram feeds were on fire with everything from the Fall 2012 shows to behind-the-scenes looks at insider parties, backstage mayhem, and  über-exclusive dinners with some pretty big industry people.  I have to admit, it’s been pretty fun and almost addicting to sit there on my iPhone and scroll through the updates… although Jarret was about ready to throw my phone across the room.

I guess it’s the next best thing to actually being at Fashion Week (maybe?).  Here are some of my favorite Instagram shots, courtesy of some of my favorite bloggers.

Whether you’re spending the day with your significant other or happily single, I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day filled with a lot of love and chocolate! xoxo

Street Style Inspo

I’ve been feeling a general lack of inspiration lately, from this blog to my outfit choices and everything in between.  To break me out of that funk and kick of the new week right, here’s some Euro street style that’s sure to break any fashionista out of her rut.

{pops of green}

{and when all else fails, there’s always head-to-toe black}

Happy Monday… wishing you all a fantastic week!
